Drop Zone

This little area by the laundry room started out as an empty space. Since it’s right next to the garage, I knew it would make a perfect drop zone.

What is drop zone?
A drop zone, also known as a mud room, is a place you can drop things, such as coats, keys, bags, mail, and other miscellaneous items, when you walk in the door. It also provides much needed organization for all those things, so they don’t cause clutter.
We got everything we needed for our drop zone poject from Ikea.
Here’s what we used:
- two Besta units – a larger one for the base, and a smaller one for the wall storage
- a Besta suspension rail to hang the wall storage
- a Besta wooden bench top
- two additional Besta shelves
We installed the large Ikea Besta unit for the base and added a wooden panel for the top.

Next, we installed a Besta suspension rail for the wall storage.

We used the smaller Besta unit for the wall storage.

Then, we added some decorative shiplap and some hooks for hanging items like coats, hats, and bags.

We were really lucky that the Ikea units fit the dimentions of the space so well. We just added some trim pieces and caulk along the edges to make everything look finished and built in.

What was an empty space is now an area that is both functional and pretty!

I’m so excited about this little space! It makes me incrediblty happy to have something that is both functional and pretty! And I know it will get a lot of use as its right by the garage entrace. It will be the perfect place to store and organize all the bags, keys, jackets, and other miscellaneous items that go in and out everyday!
I am so excited to use this little area! And I’m really looking forward to how is going to keep eveything so organized!
